The Arizona Cardinals have asked permission to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, according to multiple reports.

Haley was the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator when they reached the Super Bowl following the 2008 season, and he has a close relationship with Cardinals star receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

The Cardinals had major offensive problems this season, and Haley’s first year in Pittsburgh didn’t go smoothly. The Steelers missed the playoffs, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger apologized to Haley late in the season after complaining about the play calling following a loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Andy Reid is also on the Cardinals’ radar, but ESPN is reporting that Reid is the frontrunner for the Chiefs’ job. If Reid signs with Kansas City, the Cardinals have at least two other coaches in mind—Ray Horton, their defensive coordinator, who has already interviewed with the team, and Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who is expected to interview with the Cardinals this weekend.

Haley had an unsuccessful stint as the Chiefs’ head coach, but the Cardinals know him well and may believe he would be a better head coach if given a second chance.
